REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a science and application applying appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflexologists believe that these areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person’s general health.

Similar to acupressure and acupuncture that is discussed further down on this web page. When a reflexology practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to apply appropriate pressure; for example, reflexology holds that a specific spot in the arch of the foot corresponds to the bladder point. to this area, it affects bladder functioning.

Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, asthma, kidney functions, cancer treatments, cardio issues, diabetes, PMS, sinusitis and headaches.

Reflexology is already popular across Europe and Asia as both a complement to other treatments and as a preventive measure but in recent years growing increasingly popular in the USA.  According to several studies, this practice has resulted in reduced sick leave and absenteeism (and significant economic savings for the employers in Denmark). Employees have consistently reported complete or partial improvement in conditions where they sought reflexologists’ help and even relief for additional problems related to stress. In one municipal district in Denmark, almost one-third of the employees reported greater satisfaction with their jobs after completing six sessions with a reflexologist.

ACUPRESSURE a Self Treatment

Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers pressing on key points on the body to stimulate natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood.  This is a body’s life force to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of hands (and even feet).

There is a massive amount of scientific data that demonstrates why and how acupuncture is effective. But acupressure, the older of the two traditions. Then the Chinese developed more technological methods for stimulating points with needles and electricity. Acupressure, continues to be the most effective method for self-treatment of tension-related ailments by using the power and sensitivity of the human hand.

The advantages of acupressure’s healing touch is that it is safe to do on yourself and others – even if you’ve never done it before – so long as you follow the instructions and pay attention to the cautions. There are no side effects from drugs, because there are no drugs. And the only equipment needed are your own two hands. You can practice acupressure therapy any time, anywhere.

Areas of pressure can be applied:

  • Bend of the elbow in the area where blood is drawn
  • Between the muscle area between the thumb and pointer finger
  • Just below the below the knee cap
  • Just behind the knee and just below the knee cap
  • Just above the heel of the foot

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine practice that integrated many anatomical and pathological notions with a scientific method of applying and manipulating thin, solid needles that are inserted into the skin stimulating pressure points mapped out on the body that corrects imbalances in the flow of circulation channels know as meridians and applied by a skilled doctor. Although this practice is considered alternative medicine in the Western world, it is commonly practiced throughout East Asia and China and estimated use of 40 % of all health car delivered in Asia. Current Scientific research supports acupuncture’s efficiency in the relief of certain types of pain. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), UK’s National Health Services and the World Health Organizations have endorsed the use of acupuncture for certain conditions.
